Conflict on Campus

An event in Vari Hall featuring former Israeli Defense Forces reservists led to confrontations between pro-Palestinian protesters and pro-Israel supporters and entailed intervention by campus safety and Toronto police. The incident prompted an independent external review, resulting in the Cromwell Report, which recommended updates to policies on freedom of expression, temporary use of university space (TUUS), discrimination and harassment, and event security. It also led to the creation of the President’s Initiative on Open & Respectful Dialogue.
