On June 5, the group York Popular University for Palestine set up an encampment on the Commons at York’s Keele Campus. Aligned with encampments across university campuses in Canada and the US, organizers sought to protest Israel’s military action in Gaza and to demand that York boycott and divest from related corporations, institutions, and activities. On June 6, the university issued a trespass notice and called Toronto Police to remove the encampment.
