Reflections from a staff member:

When I was a student at York (2009–2014), mental health became a growing topic of conversation, and I’ve seen how the university has since made significant progress in this area. The creation of the Mental Health Action Group in 2012 and the Mental Health Steering Committee in 2015 — which later evolved into the broader Well-being Strategy — signaled a real shift in how York approached student and community wellness. Expanding counselling and other supports helped embed mental health within York’s equity framework, recognizing that barriers to mental well-being are also barriers to access, participation, and success.
